Motorcycle Cover

Rather than leaving your bike out in the elements all the time, look at a motorcycle cover for added peace of mind when storing your bike outdoors. With many different sizes and types of covers on offer, it's best to pick one that's designed for your bike type and the amount of space that you have available.

Firstly, make sure to pick a cover that fits around your bike without providing a lot of loose baggage. The is especially important if you live in a windy area. There's nothing worse than having a corner of your cover pick up a pocket of wind and decide to pull the rest of the cover off, or even worse, create a sail that allows the wind to tip your bike over. For an added tip in ultra-heavy wind, park your bike in gear to prevent the wind from picking up in your cover and allowing your motorcycle to move unexpectedly.

Another important reason to pick a reasonably tight fitting cover is to prevent rain buildup on the top of the cover. If your cover is too loose, it's likely that rain could build up and create pockets of water in the cover, which could then leak down into your motorcycle and cause rusting on the frame and other exposed metal surfaces. While a little rain is unlikely to cause any damage, still water that's sat on your cover for a long time can produce some effects that you might not want.

Finally, make sure to pick a cover that you can fit within the amount of storage space you have available. While most covers are designed to stretch and accommodate your bike, many need to be tied to either posts or other objects to prevent them from blowing off of your bike. The former type should be your first priority, as they're much easier to keep and are unlikely to come loose from your bike. If you need any extra security, secure the cover under one of your bike's wheels, or against the foot pegs.

Secondly, make sure that your helmet has passed every safety test and requirement for your respective country. These requirements can differ depending on what county you live in, but they generally all require a sticker or badge to be visible on the helmet. If you're not sure, either ask the salesperson or email the customer support department, who should be able to inform you of any safety standards and testing certificates. If the helmet doesn't pass safety tests, don't buy it.

Finally, make sure to look for a helmet that provides the necessary features and options for you. While many cheap helmets come with an adjustable visor, they're often flimsy and of low build quality. While this may not seem to be a big deal, it certainly will when you're riding towards the sun and can't see through a cheap visor. Invest the extra money and get something well made. Another important thing to look for is the level of ventilation and airflow that the helmet offers. Good helmets shouldn't fog up unless it's exceptionally cold or damp, and it's unwise to pick a helmet that does.
